Patients with heart failure often suffer from various comorbidities. To understand the inter-organ crosstalk of heart failure, we will focus on systemic aspects involving neuroendocrine activation, inflammation, and metabolic alterations. While current treatments predominantly address the imbalance of the neuroendocrine system, the prognosis of heart failure patients remains poor emphasizing the need for the identification and development of novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of HF. In specific sessions, we elucidate on the interfaces between the heart and other organs and highlight therapeutic concepts targeting the immune system and metabolism. Comorbidities including hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and cancer significantly affect the development of heart failure. We will shed light into the genetic predisposition and their cardiac consequences on contractile and sarcomeres’ dysfunction, and the vicious cycle of atrial fibrillation and heart failure. We will discuss first clinical experience with tissue engineered heart repair. The sessions will cover basic, translational and clinical aspects and will attract young clinicians and scientists to present their innovative research.
